Hole 2

Hole 1

Pro's Tip

Favour the left side from the tee with a long iron or medium wood as out of bounds lurks down the right. On the approach shot take care to avoid the grass bunker at the back of the green and you should walk away with no worse than your par.

Pro's Tip

Double-check your yardage and make sure you take enough club on this par 3 as missing the green on either side will leave you facing a difficult chip shot.

Hole 3

Pro's Tip

Aim your drive for the middle eucalyptus tree and don’t try and cut off too much of the corner. The cross bunker hides the green which makes getting close tricky. Get a yardage, pick a club and swing with confidence. There are no greenside bunkers to catch those errant shots.

Hole 4

Pro's Tip

Long hitters might want to think about cutting the corner here but this shot comes with a high difficulty rating and is fraught with danger. The sensible play requires a shot of around 200 yards to the corner and then a full shot on to the raised putting surface. This hole requires two well placed shots to make the green in two.

Hole 5

Pro's Tip

Again the longer hitters can bite off the corner on this hole which lends itself to a soft draw around the dogleg. Out of bounds on the tree line to the right and two fairway bunkers add to the challenge. The 2nd shot plays downhill into a long green so clubbing is troublesome but don’t go long because a nasty shot awaits any player who goes through the green.

Hole 6

Pro's Tip

Don’t go right! Even if you don’t quite go out of bounds your second shot will be blocked out by overhanging branches from the big trees. A strong tee shot down the left hand side will leave a straightaway shot to a generous green that slopes back to front.

Hole 7

Pro's Tip

Again a drive down the left gives the best line from the tee, however you will need your best drive to give you a chance of finding the green in two. For your second, a shot to the left of the fairway will give you the best angle of approach into this awkward two tier green.

Hole 8

Pro's Tip

The right hand bunker rather dominates this hole where the premium is on accuracy on your tee shot. A straight tee shot leaves a downhill second to a small green that slopes from back to front. Try to get close because putting can be very difficult when the green is at full pace.

Hole 9

Pro's Tip

Try to hold your tee shot up the right avoiding the bunker as the rough on the left can be quite penal. This will leave a short to mid iron to a green with a ridge at the front.

Hole 10

Pro's Tip

A good drive is required to reach in two, and you must take care to avoid the bunker that is hidden from the tee. Be careful with your yardage for the second shot as there is a hollow in front of the green that fore shortens the shot. Par is a very good score on the 10th.

Pro's Tip

Lovely looking par three that normally requires one more club than the length suggests. The green is receptive as it slopes from back to front. Avoid going right with your tee shot as it will leave you a difficult chip from an uneven lie.

Pro's Tip

A long par five that will require the wind behind and a slice of luck to find the green in two. Caution must be taken to avoid the dip on the right. Any shot running into this green will break from right to left so favour the right side with your approach.

Hole 13

Pro's Tip

Rowlands Castles signature hole is one that asks questions all the way down its 377 yard length. An accurate drive is required up the left where the fairway will gather the ball from left to right. The green is sunken and on two distinct levels – it essential to be on the right tier to avoid the dreaded three putt.

Hole 14

Pro's Tip

A deceptive par 3 that requires nothing less than a carry to the green with a nasty bunker covering the front. The green slopes from back to front and the shot plays uphill- so take enough club.

A long swinging dog leg from right to left that requires a soft draw or your straightest shot to stay on the fairway. From there a long second faces into a large unprotected green

Pro's Tip

The temptation here will be to go for a ‘big’ one of the tee but this hole requires finesse as a carefully placed tee shot down the left hand side will leave a straight forward uphill mid iron into a welcoming green. The green has a slope at the front so club up and take par as a good score.

Pro's Tip

Take your pick of potential disasters and card wreckers lurking down the hole on the 17th Out of bounds right and a ditch left! You need a long tee shot to catch a glimpse of the green. A second shot into the right side of the fairway should leave an easier shot in avoiding the front left bunker.

Pro's Tip

A truly stunning finish to your round at Rowlands Castle played under the shadow of the clubhouse. A long par 4 where you can open your shoulders off the tee. The second shot must be long and straight to find the green that slopes from back to front. A par here is worth celebrating with a deserved drink in the bar.
